The International Public Relations Network (IPRN) convened approximately 40 chief executives and senior communications leaders from 30 member agencies representing more than 20 countries for its 2026 Annual General Meeting in Rome, Italy. The four-day event, organised by the Rome-based member agency INC – Istituto Nazionale per la Comunicazione, served as a global platform for discussing the future of communications, exchanging best practices, and exploring international business opportunities among independent agencies spanning five continents.

A significant portion of the summit was dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence on the communications industry. Discussions centred on the evolving role of AI and its implications for truth, trust, and responsibility within the profession. Agency leaders explored methods for integrating AI into existing workflows and discussed strategies for navigating an increasingly AI-driven professional landscape.

The conference also addressed the critical issue of talent development. Participants examined the challenges and opportunities involved in attracting, training, and retaining the next generation of communications professionals. The dialogue extended to the importance of building agency cultures that can effectively engage employees across different generations to ensure long-term organisational growth and success.

During the proceedings, the IPRN unveiled a new visual identity and a redesigned website. This rebranding effort is intended to reflect the network’s evolution over the past three decades and to support its continued expansion into new markets. Currently, the IPRN comprises approximately 50 independent public relations and communications agencies operating in more than 100 major cities across over 30 countries, offering clients access to local expertise through a global network of partners.

North American agencies were active participants in the strategic discussions regarding the network’s future direction. Michelle Mekky, the founder and chief executive of Mekky Media, was re-elected to serve another term as the North American Regional Chair and an Executive Board Member of the IPRN. Other North American member agencies involved in the proceedings included Aurora Strategy, Channel V Media, High Results, JPA Health, Lopito, and Ileana.

The event featured the presentation of various case studies and industry insights, with nearly every participating agency showcasing innovative campaigns and strategic communications programmes from various global markets. The meeting concluded with the annual IPRN Awards, which recognised excellence in communications and celebrated significant agency achievements and member contributions across the network.

Mekky noted that the strength of the IPRN lies in the ability to learn from global leaders facing similar industry challenges, adding that the exchange of ideas and the relationships formed through the network create meaningful opportunities for cross-border collaboration and better client service.
