The Euro area recorded an €8.6 billion surplus in international trade in goods for June 2026, according to data released by Eurostat. This figure represents a notable increase from the €4.8 billion surplus reported during the same month in 2025 and marks a recovery from the €9.0 billion deficit recorded in May 2026.

Exports of goods to the rest of the world reached €272.5 billion in June, a 14.4% increase compared to the €238.2 billion recorded in June 2025. During the same period, imports rose 13.1% to €264.0 billion, up from €233.4 billion in the previous year.

The growth in the trade balance was primarily driven by higher surpluses in chemicals and related products, manufactured goods, and food and drink. While the surplus for machinery and vehicles also saw a slight improvement, these gains were partially offset by a larger deficit in energy imports.

For the first half of 2026, the euro area recorded a cumulative surplus of €9.8 billion. This is a significant decline from the €82.2 billion surplus documented during the January-to-June period in 2025. Throughout the first six months of 2026, euro area exports fell 0.2% to €1,487.2 billion, while imports increased 4.9% to €1,477.4 billion. Intra-euro area trade rose 4.7% during this period, reaching €1,408.2 billion.

Within the European Union, the trade balance for goods with the rest of the world showed a €3.9 billion surplus in June 2026, down from a €5.2 billion surplus in June 2025. EU exports to countries outside the union reached €241.5 billion in June, a 12.5% increase compared to June 2025.
