The International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam has announced the finalists for the IBC2026 Innovation Awards, highlighting groundbreaking developments in artificial intelligence, cloud technology, and media accessibility. The awards recognise collaborative international projects that address industry challenges across the media, entertainment, and technology sectors.
This year’s finalists reflect an industry undergoing significant shifts towards AI, cloud-native workflows, and software-defined systems. The projects are categorised into four areas: content creation, content distribution, content everywhere, and social impact. The selections demonstrate how partnerships between media organisations and technology providers are advancing production, distribution, and audience engagement.
Fergal Ringrose, chair of the IBC2026 Innovation Awards jury, stated that the number and quality of entries received globally were exceptional. He noted that more than 120 high-quality deployed innovation projects competed for recognition, underscoring the growing importance of the awards within the media and entertainment community. The judging panel focused on the principles of innovation and partnership to select the finalists.
In the content creation category, finalists include a unified multilingual production operation for BBC India, the Media eXchange Layer open-source initiative, and an AI-powered Formula E strategy agent developed in collaboration with Google Cloud.
The content distribution finalists include Reuters’ implementation of a global shared memory ecosystem, a centralised digital contribution and workflow platform for Radio Televisyen Malaysia, and a standards-based ad insertion system deployed by RTBF Belgium for the FIFA World Cup.
Representing the content everywhere category are Globo’s DTV+ integration in Brazil, a Microsoft-powered AI conversational experience for Premier League fans, and an AI-generated performer known as Tilly Norwood, which has reached an estimated 80 million people and generated approximately 500 million impressions.
The social impact finalists feature the International Telecommunication Union’s AI for Good platform, the International Olympic Committee’s cyber abuse protection service, and an AI-powered sign language solution developed for live and on-demand streaming.
The winners of the IBC2026 Innovation Awards will be revealed 13 September at the RAI Amsterdam. The presentation will also include the IBC International Honour for Excellence and the Best Technical Paper. The IBC2026 conference is scheduled to run from 11 September through 14 September.
