The Ramboll Foundation and the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) have launched a strategic partnership intended to place quality of life at the heart of building and city planning. The initiative seeks to transition the built environment sector away from a narrow focus on carbon-only metrics toward a more holistic approach that integrates human health, well-being, equity, and climate resilience into sustainable development strategies.
Through this collaboration, the organisations aim to make quality of life a measurable and deliverable outcome for urban and architectural projects. The partnership will focus on the development of practical tools, business cases, and national roadmaps. These resources are intended to assist decision-makers in addressing critical factors such as indoor air quality, thermal comfort, social equity, and resilience to escalating climate risks.
The initiative is built upon more than ten years of collaboration between the Ramboll Group and WorldGBC. Previous joint work includes the 2019 report regarding bringing embodied carbon upfront and Ramboll’s role as a regional partner for the WorldGBC Europe Regional Network. The two entities have also provided technical contributions to various national decarbonisation roadmaps recognised by the UNFCCC.
The Ramboll Foundation, which owns the Ramboll Group, intends for the partnership to provide evidence-based guidance that makes best practices in health and resilience easier to apply at a city scale. By aligning building decarbonisation with human well-being, the partnership seeks to ensure that climate-focused construction efforts also promote long-term social and physical health.
